UniteU Technologies | |
|
While working for UniteU Technologies as a part time consultant, I implemented e-commerce websites using a back end content management system. I created the look and feel of each site using html, CSS and some JavaScript. Graphic designers worked on the front end designs by creating graphics using Adobe Photoshop. I used the Photoshop files to extract all the graphical elements for placement on the websites. |

West KM | |
|
During the summer of 2004, I worked as a contractor on Thomson's demo 'West KM' product for the sales team. This project included extensive javaScript, html & css to produce a simulation of what it's like to use the real West KM product. "West KM is a system that combines a firm's work product with KeyCite® and Westlaw®, allowing attorneys and legal researchers to find relevant firm documents and gain insight and understanding from the firm's own experience". I was handed this project midway through the development cycle; it was started by a previous contractor who was unable to finish the job. I worked solo, both on campus and remotely, on this project and reported directly to a project manager. |

| This is my volunteer project which I have been devoting a lot of my time to. I've been involved with the St. Paul-Nagasaki Sister City Committee for 3 years. I'm the web master for this non-profit organization and am responsible for maintaining content & staying in contact with the board of directors while I'm in New York finishing my masters degree. | |
RIT Projects |

| This project was my first project at the Rochester Institute of Technology. I'm not particularly proud of the sites layout design...in fact I'm disgusted with it. Because of the nature of a 10 week course schedule, I had to develop this dynamic web portal in a matter of a few weeks which resulted in a terrible layout design. It was also a crash course in more advanced css design. The main technology used for this project was PHP, a server side programming language that allows the site to be very dynamic. The site is still operational at the time of this writing. Technologies used: PHP, mySQL, SQL, css, xhtml, SOAP, RSS news feeds, CRON |

| This was a great team based project! This project was for a web-database implementation course. I was involved with forming a 5 person team, creating a an interactive online game, developing both the front & back end of the application, and keeping the team productive. This was the most challenging project to date because of the diversity of the team. Each of us contributed towards the completion of the project. I was not involved with creating the Flash interface which interacted with the mySQL database. My primary contributions to the team where the following: Team leader I emerged/stepped up as the team leader to form the team, come up with a creative game idea, and to help manage the communications and meetings of the team. Creative ideas Although there were other great ideas formed by other team members, we decided to go with my idea due to the flexibility it would allow us during the development life cycle of this online game. Chat interface (front & back end) I developed a chat interface with imoticons (those little smiley faces) by using extensive php, SQL, css & mySQL. Game pages I was involved with putting it all together. I did not develop the player registration, the main game pages, the graphics, or the Flash interface (where the main interaction of the game takes place). I was involved with the development of player authentication before entering the game. There was an extensive amount of error checking along with other variable checks on the page previous to entering the game. I was also involved with putting all the components of the game together on the main game page where the Flash interaction takes place. Notice! This game is not completely free of bugs! There are still a lot of bugs that need to be taken care of. The bugs WILL NOT cause harm to your computer or browser. These bugs will not get fixed as this was a 10 week project for a course & the course has been completed. The bugs in this project did not affect the final grade received in the course. Just be aware that things are not working as they are supposed to at this time. Also note that this project is best viewed using Internet Explorer. I highly recommend visiting the site using that browser. We did not have time to consider developing this game for other browsers to make it cross browser compatible...That might have added another 10-20 weeks in the development phase! Ick! Lets just say that the browser standards are not so standard...typical of the web and proprietary products. |

KARE 11 |
|
| For 8 months, I was given the great opportunity to have an internship at this Minneapolis based television news station (NBC affiliated & owned by Gannett). This station is the number one ranked news station in the Minneapolis area! This internship allowed me to expand my skill set with web application development by incorporating the following technologies: css, javascript, html, asp, & sql. The project pictured to the left was an assignment given to me for a KARE 11 EXTRA. The KARE 11 EXTRA segment, on drug pricing around the metro area, aired sometime in April of 2004. I created a mini web application, which was highlighted on the news, that compared local drug store prices of various prescription drugs. The interactive drug comparison chart is no longer viewable but I've included a link to the story, which may or may not still be available on the KARE 11 servers. |

This project was my main project. The project was to develop a more intuitive way for the weather department to choose movie clips they wanted to use in the weather segment during the news casts. Previously, they had to choose a clip number from an access database which did not allow them to preview the movie clips. I developed a web application which allowed the meteorologists to choose exactly which movie clip they wanted. I was able to increase their productivity and decrease their frustration by reducing the amount of time it took to find movie clips. This project allowed me to learn more about html, css, javascript, ASP, SQL & the development life cycle of a project. I worked alone on this project with the IS manager being my go-to guy if I had questions. Heavy testing & debugging took place throughout the completion of this project, and required extensive use of SQL using a mySQL database. |
